Project A Part 2 (Review)

Project A was so good that Jackie decided to make his first sequel by revisiting the world of Dragon Ma.

At the conclusion of Part 1 Dragon Ma had just finished mopping up the pirate pieces left behind after their raid.

Part 2 starts with us meeting with the surviving pirates, they are now the opposite of menacing and scary, with only a few left. The leftovers are sick and hungry, and place full blame on Dragon Ma for their predicament, swearing revenge at any cost.

Meanwhile, having effectively wiped out the pirate menace, Dragon and his troops are at somewhat of a loose end, so Dragon is given a post in the “regular” police force, taking over from a corrupt and basically shady police chief who turned a blind eye to much of the goings on in his area.

Dragon immediately puts many of his naval buddies on his squad, and sets about wiping out crime in the area, his initial and overriding focus is on crime lord Tiger Au, who to this point was basically given free reign by the previous police chief.

The plot of Part 2 is far more long winded and admittedly at times hokey, and overall it just seems to be a little bit more cautious and conservative than part 1 was.

It is still a solid film though, and the first was basically so good that it was always going to be hard to back it up with a similar quality offering, let alone something as good or superior.

1/ Are there any “WOW!” fights?

Yes, it just isn’t as “balls to the wall” as Part 1.

2/ Are there any “WOW!” stunts?

Yes. Most notably been thrown into and trapped in a grain crusher.

3/ Which Jackie is it? Serious / Whimsical / Cocky…

Noble & courageous once more.

4/ Does he get to use Jackie-exclusive toys?

No.

5/ Do stolen relics come up?

Not this time.

6/ Are there hot chicks (that usually can’t act)?

Only the usual 80s JC film chickies.

7/ Is there a blooper reel over the credits?

Yes.

8/ Were there injuries on the shoot? Severity?

Mainly bumps and bruises this time. Nothing life threatening.

9/ Has he still got it?

Yep, but the action is a little thin on the ground this time.

10/ Is it a “Jackie Chan” film, or just one he is in?

Definitely still a Jackie Chan film.

Final Rating – 7 / 10. Suffers by comparison to the original Project A, this is still a worthy action film and is nothing that Jackie will lose sleep over by knowing it is in his CV.

About OGR

While I try to throw a joke or two into proceedings when I can all of the opinions presented in my reviews are genuine. I don't expect that all will agree with my thoughts at all times nor would it be any fun if you did, so don't be shy in telling me where you think I went wrong... and hopefully if you think I got it right for once. Don't be shy, half the fun is in the conversation after the movie.
