Series 7 (Review)

series_sevenEssentially a reality show about a bunch of randomly chosen adults selected to take part in a last man standing ‘Highlander’ type contest, Series 7 is a nice hook with depressingly bland bait.

The 6 contestants are aged 18-72, from all walks of life and selected from no known criteria. in true reality show style they all get elaborate intros, camera face time and individual storylines; Cancer! Pregnant! Religious! Innocent! Virginal! Old! Oh everyone has their own glass case of emotion…

Also in true reality style I check out in about 5 minutes. Nowadays reality is scripted enough without making films about it with actual scripts that look to replicate the source material being ‘parodied’.

Yes it’s dark. Yes it’s brutal. Yes it’s violent. The film initially gets the blood pumping with the very thought of such awful choices. Of course it’s bad to think that an elderly ex-nurse might see fit to gun down a sweet young Daddy’s girl in cold blood. The thought of a real pregnant woman being coerced to plot the demise of a man dying of cancer is horrible. These points are inarguable. But when the execution (so to speak) is as drab and straightforward as this then I have no choice but to not be moved.

And to think this was a ‘best of’ episode no less!!!

Final Rating – 6 / 10. The scariest part of Series 7 is how embarrassingly possible this might all be in just a few years. The Hunger Games already proves that when that day arrives it will have an audience.

About OGR

While I try to throw a joke or two into proceedings when I can all of the opinions presented in my reviews are genuine. I don't expect that all will agree with my thoughts at all times nor would it be any fun if you did, so don't be shy in telling me where you think I went wrong... and hopefully if you think I got it right for once. Don't be shy, half the fun is in the conversation after the movie.
